“YOU’RE NOT A REAL DOCTOR...”
“QUACK” “NOT EVIDENCE BASED” “CHIROPRACTORS KILL PEOPLE” These are phrases I hear so often. My feelings over the years have changed on this subject. I am a natural born “right-fighter.” My husband constantly reminds me of this. I used to want to provide evidence to try my case, a dissertation, and a drag down fight for the dignity of my profession, but it always led to disappointment. Why? Because people will believe what they want to believe. And the best way to change an opinion is not to scream the loudest, but to quietly change one mind at a time by caring for your patients and getting them better. I don’t have to sell that...I DO THAT. So this is Uprise. Who we are. Our education. Our standards. All of us have Bachelor degrees in various things. Dr. Bree (me) actually has 2! We all have a Doctorate in Chiropractic. Dr. Bree and Dr. Ashley BOTH have training to treat kids and pregnant women via the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). This additional training is countless hours. Webster certification is just for the treatment of pregnant women, not children. You can visit this website to see if people have training in kids and pregnant women (Webster Technique) https://icpa4kids.com/. This additional training isn’t something a chiropractor gets in the 3.4 year program. When you go through chiropractic school, you come out a general chiropractor with no additional training in children, pregnant women, functional medicine, nutrition, sports, neurology, animal chiropractic etc. Texas doesn’t mandate you have this training to work with children or pregnant women. They don’t police people who say they specialize in something even if they don’t have proper training. Chiropractic school is rigorous. It is a 4 year program consolidated into 3 years and 4 months. Year round education of 30-35 credit hours with labs. 1 year of a clinical rotation of hands on experience with the public (we have had hands on experience with other students the rest of the program). We take cadaver courses for one year. We take anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, many biologies, microbiology’s...so much science. We graduate knowing how to adjust patients, diagnose them with musculoskeletal issues, and enough information to be able to see other possible disease states and illnesses coming. But we aren’t medical doctors. Our scope is to treat the musculoskeletal system. It has to be traced back to that. That’s what we do at Uprise. We are knowledgeable in many other things, but we never take the place of your PCP, OBGYN, Midwife, Pediatrician, Lactation Consultant, Pediatric Dentist, etc. This is why we at Uprise preach COLLABORATIVE CARE. I can be proficient at 10 things, or be the best at one thing. When you live it, breathe it, and practice it every single day, it becomes you. It becomes your skill and your identity, just like all of the skilled practitioners we refer to and collaborate with on a daily basis. We at Uprise want you to be with the BEST of the BEST. The masters of their trade. The purists. We want this for you so that the desired outcomes you have can come to fruition.
